Natural Hair Diaries

Hi loves

Today I'd like to share with you my go to hair products and hair care routine. Sometime last year I decided to go natural. I stopped chemically treating my hair. Transitioning for me was not easy. I would wash my hair and when I air dry it (which took the whole day), it would get tangled.  The ends of my hair remained straight and it was hard to comb through. So I decided to go for the big chop...

This year in January I had my first hair cut in two years. My hair was so short, the barber could not keep my transition hair because my hair was too short at the back. I had to start from the bottom but I loved the outcome.

The products I started using were from Aunt Jackie's coil and curls collection. I used their oh so clean shampoo and curl la la defining curl custard. I loved the smell and feel on my hair. I felt as though my  hair was a little dry after shampooing. When I'm lazy to wash my hair I would spritz a concoction of olive oil, coconut oil and argan oil in water. After moistening my hair I would seal it with the curl custard. It is vital to follow the LOC method for natural hair. (L - leave-in-conditioner, O - oils and C - cream). You use the leave-in-conditioner to moisten the hair, oil for nourishment and cream for sealing the hair and protecting it from dryness and breakage,

Recently I tried new products, Afri True shampoo (clicksSA brand) and Aunt Jackies's in control conditioner. I'm loving them so far. When I checked the ingredients on the shampoo my heart sank though because it had sulphate. Sulphate is one of the ingredients to look out for when choosing natural hair care products. Natural hair cair products should have water (aqua), shea butter and natural oils such as coconut oil and olive oil. Natural hair care products should be sulphate and paraben free. Sulphates and paraben cause breakage and dryness on hair strands.

I don't like hoarding products so I'll probably use these until they finish then try more natural products. I will keep sharing my experiences with you. About the routine... well there is really no routine to washing my hair.  I sometimes wash it for 3 consecutive days and sometimes just once a week. It really depends on my mood. I'm yet to have a routine. When I do I'll tell you all about it.

Have you gone natural? If yes, please share your experience. If no, why not?  I'd like to hear from you.

Keep visiting the blog for more updates.

Love,
Kanya xo
